The Grounds opened in 2019 with one conviction: that a cup of coffee is not a transaction, but an occasion.
We set out to build a place where ordering a coffee did not feel like standing at a counter, but like sitting down in someone's home. That distinction requires a great deal of effort to make invisible.
We source our beans directly from three farms — two in Ethiopia, one in Colombia — and roast them weekly in small batches on site. A coffee roasted on Tuesday and brewed on Friday tastes like something alive.
Every origin we carry has been visited by someone on our team. We do not buy from catalogues. We buy from people.
Our space was designed around the idea of productive stillness. No music loud enough to intrude. Natural light where possible. Tables spaced far enough apart that a conversation stays a conversation.
We have regulars who have come every morning for four years and we still do not know their names — and that, we think, is a compliment.
